Transportation Eligibility

Students who live less than two miles from a school will not be eligible for transportation based on the State Board of Education rule 6A 3.001(3). The 2-mile radius rule is as follows: "A reasonable walking distance for any student who is not otherwise eligible for transportation pursuant to Section 1011.68, Florida Statutes, is any distance not more than two (2) miles between the home and school or one and one-half (1 1/2) miles between the home and the assigned bus stop."
Transportation will be provided to students that live closer than the 2-mile radius based on the state criteria for Hazardous Conditions.

Special Needs and KG students must be met at the door of the bus at the stop location. Students will be returned to the school at the completion of the route if they are not met. Every effort will be made to contact the parent before returning.

Kindergarten Students will be required to have a red tag for non school bus transportation and a green one for students who will ride a school bus. This will be attached to the students book bag to assist us with protecting our most vulnerable students. A parent or guardian must be at the bus stop in the PM to receive this student. If there is no one at the stop the student will be returned to their home school at the completion of the route.

Lake Wales Charter Schools will be adding stop arm cameras to it's fleet of school bus. We are giving the public a 30 day notice. Under HB 179 new state law, the camera will read and record the license plate of a vehicle that passes a school bus in the fully stopped position. The registered owner will be sent a civil citation. The vehicle owner will be fined $225 but receive no points on their license.
